Greystreak's 1809 Hesse-Darmstadt Brigade

Postby Greystreak » Sat Nov 16, 2013 5:37 pm

Further to a recent request from John Baxter (and partly in response to a jibe from Giles that I never paint anything non-Russian ;) ), I have dug out the old photos of my 1809 Hesse-Darmstadt Brigade, as attached to Massena’s IV Corps at Wagram. The figures are all AB 18mm scale, with paint-based conversions of Prussian 1806 figures for infantry (Leib & Leib-Garde Regts.), Bavarian Cavalry for the Chevauleger, and Saxon artillerists for the foot battery. All figures currently reside in the collection of Mr. Douglas Birnie, of the Loughton Strike Force club.

Very Nice looking figures, jealous muchly!

I know, if I could paint like that I would find a faithless woman and have children by her and sell them so that I could keep my toy soldiers. :(

No one in my club plays 15mm scale . . . Peeler didn't fancy them . . . and a nice bloke made me an offer I couldn't refuse? :?

Sadly, since then I've struggled with learning how to paint 28mm scale figures.

yep, they are the ones I was after. That is one lovely brigade. I was looking longingly at the AB 1806 Prussians on Friday and they really are one of Tony's best productions ever.

I meant in 28mm, Bryce...

Anyhow, these are brilliantly executed, and show your equal skill in 18mm as with 28mm. Outstanding painting.

The only credible explanation could have been that he`d sold his spleen and a kidney, promised the rest of his body parts and had no seed left in his loins

Even then I don't think I could sell such magic toys

Somebody gained a superbly painted AB brigade and hopefully he will treasure them.

Truly brilliant work on superb little figures - always loved those AB horses, beautifully proportioned. 8-)

Brilliant, absolutly brilliant. Especially how you managed to con Valleyboy into sitting still long enough (and on a horse!) to paint this one:-

Look he's even pointing to the wheel barrow containing his lucky dice!

Nah, he's pointing at the pile of soot on the carpet and saying "If any of your ankle biters touch my figures, that's what they will look like!"
