Great report. I love the period & like in your game, I have a dear French army that rarely wins but who always lose in style.

Thanks for the kind comments!
I used to own that French army, but didn't feel like re-basing it when the flock went off. Actually, we are using the games to do an imagi-nations campaign, the French were souped up! They were rated as Austrians, and their Kuirassiers and some of the dragoons were classed the same as Prussians!
I think the Faux French lost mainly due to them over-extending their line, and trying to be strong everywhere!

Good dice rolls at key points helped me as well though!!!

Fun reading and great photos!

French have always been my go-to army when it comes to choosing sides for the 18th C. Simple, yet elegant uniforms, with great flags.

Austrians being my B-team.

Thanks again! - I seem to get stuck with the French whenever we start a new period as my friends always insist on getting Austrians or British/Prussians (I got the Prussians for 7YW just before my mate Ian!)
I still have the French for the War of the Spanish succession, though, and love them! - lovely, simple, elegant, and good flags, as you have mentioned!

We use our home-groan SYW rules.
In them, the French shoot & melee well enough but movement is the problem.
They tend to have the less successful commanders & their drill isn't at Prussian standards. So, make the French move on an objective or mount an attack & the cracks can appear.

....but they are lovely to look at.

I use my own rules too. We have French infantry poor Manoeuvre and poor shots, but ok otherwise. Their brigadiers tend more towards incompetent and brave, especially for the cavalry.
Prussians we class as good Manoeuvering, and high morale pre Prague.
For more details, they are on our website at http://herkybird.tynesidewargames.co.uk/syw.html
