Nearly Napoleonic Battles

Postby thistlebarrow » Sun Aug 05, 2018 10:27 am

I am planning a series of wargames based on famous Napoleonic battles.

The intention is to use my existing collection of model soldiers, my current terrain and scenery and my current wargames table. I am not planning to make any new scenery or paint any new figures.

At present I have a comprehensive collection of 28mm figures which I use in my long running 1813 campaign. Over the past nine years it has provided us with 273 battles to wargame, and will no doubt continue to do so in the future. However it would be nice to be able to wargame non campaign battles for a change.

I have a 6x6 foot wargames table and create the terrain using 2x2 foot scenic squares. There are 35 different combinations, which allows me to make a large variety of battlefields.

I have ten armies of 28mm figures, and one per side fits comfortably on the table. They are organised in armies of four corps each, with a total of 128 infantry, 16 cavalry and 4 guns per side. Two of these will be the maximum available to each battle.

I will try to make each wargame look as much like the historical battle as possible. But you will see from the above that each game will be based on, rather than an attempt to recreate, the battle.

I have started a blog to record each of the wargames and am finding it difficult to select an appropriate name. I would like it to describe what the wargames are, which is based on a Napoleonic battle, but not an attempt to recreate it.

The best we could do is “Nearly Napoleonic Battles” for the blog title, and “Nearly Waterloo” for the post dealing with Waterloo. I am not very happy with this title, and hope that one of you might come up with something more suitable.

Any practical suggestions welcome
